Adult Learners' Week

International Adult Learners' Week is held in early April to celebrate adult learners and the joy of learning throughout life.  To learn more, visit Canadian Commission for UNESCO.

2013

We held a writing contest called Message in a Bottle for adult learners.  We asked for written entries that would inspire others to go back to school.

2010, 2011 and 2012

We partnered with Holland College to host an afternoon of entertainment for Holland College students involved in the level and GED courses.  Both events included entertainment by musician Mark Haines and comedian Lenny MacPherson. Kim MacGrath-Myers, an adult learner, told her story and provided the audience with motivation and guidance.  Approximately 50 individuals attended each event.

2009

We created articles for The Guardian and The Journal Pioneer newspapers - one was printed each day of the week. Each newspaper also interviewed an adult learner in their area and printed a feature article on their story.

We printed and distributed a special edition of the "Live and Learn" newsletter featuring the stories of ten adult learners to all members and partners. We partnered with Holland College to host a launch of the newsletter with level and GED course students, teachers and adult learners profiled in the newsletter. During the launch, we gave out bursaries to the winning candidates and Holland College provided certificates to students who took part in a reading activity.
