Scholarship Program


Each year the PEI Literacy Alliance awards three $1500 scholarships with money raised at the PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy website.

You can apply for one of these awards if you are an adult who had trouble with reading and you are continuing your education at UPEI or Holland College. To find out more, contact your admissions office.

The memorial scholarships honour these three literacy champions:

Peter Gzowski 1934-2002
Peter was the long-time host of CBC's Morningside. He founded the PGI Golf Tournaments for Literacy which have raised millions of dollars for literacy programs across Canada.

Harry MacLauchlan 1926-2002

Harry was involved in twelve of the Island's PGI tournaments. His firm, Island Coastal Services generously donated the use of the Green Gables Golf Course many times.

Bill Hancox 1921-2001

Bill was the former publisher of The Guardian. He brought the PGI to Prince Edward Island in 1991. He worked on the planning committee for the tournament for many years.


 
The scholarships are valued at $1500 each. The Gzowski and MacLauchlan awards each go to an adult who has struggled with literacy and is entering a program at Holland College. The Hancox award is for an adult learner entering a program at UPEI.
